Eleven May Not Be The Doctor's Lucky Number

The new Doctor Who Xmas special was sadly disappointing. The Eleventh Doctor although having grown on me a bit since his debut just doesn't measure up to prior incarnations. Sadly the show in general seemed to have lost a bit of steam and gotten a bit hacky with the change of showrunner and Doctor, which is a shame as I had been quite fond of Moffat's writing in prior series and on other shows, but as showrunner he has allowed the show to get a bit lackluster. Once the Ponds leave the show in the upcoming series I wonder if there will be any reason to follow the Eleventh Doctor except to see him regenerate.

The Adventures of Doctor John Smith?

Since they seem to be having some issues with getting a regular season of Doctor Who out I had an idea for something to fill the void.

We have a double of the Tenth Doctor in a parallel world with Rose who works for that Earth's Torchwood.  It only stands to reason that he would work with them as well. Since he is in a human body he should have a human name, yet somehow keep a reference to his roots.  I propose that he go by Dr. John Smith.

The show would have some very fundamental differences as there would not be a TARDIS to travel through time and space in.  Rather Dr. Smith would work with Torchwood to defend the Earth from alien threats, a role he once had on his original Earth back when he worked with UNIT.

Even if they do manage to sort out their scheduling I'd still really like to see this.  What do you think?
